Silver Beach

Atticus's Triathlon

Atticus completed a triathlon today! It was his first and included a 1.3 mile bike race without training wheels (notable because he just learned to ride without training wheels on Wednesday). Everyone in the family was very excited to watch him compete and we were so proud of him for finishing!

Tiruye Is Two!

Miss Zelda Tiruye had her second birthday last week and got to celebrate with two little parties. This little girl loves her sweets and was more than happy to eat her share of cake.

Tiruye, how we love you. You have an independent streak that will serve you well in life and we can't get enough of your sweet cuddles and growly little bear hugs. Last year, we had already been matched with you and stared at your picture on your first birthday while longing to have you in our arms. I'm so grateful that you are home and in our family this year. We love you!

A Fireworks Show with Papa

Yesterday afternoon Paul promised Atticus and Norah that he would wake them up and take them to see their first real fireworks show while I stayed home with Tegegn and Tiruye. They were thrilled by this idea and made him promise that he wouldn't forget. Unfortunately, we'd neglected to check the schedule for fireworks shows in our area and it was only after the kiddos were tucked in that we found out that the nearest show was on a beach an hour away. Paul, being the awesome dad that he is, didn't want to let the kids down, so we quickly woke them up and packed them into the car. At this point, Norah decided that she didn't want to go and was sleepily sobbing that she wanted to stay home and go back to bed. We strapped her into her carseat anyway and I crossed my fingers for Paul that everything would go well.

Despite having to walk almost a mile to and from the beach to the parking lot, the show not starting until 10:30 p.m., and a horrendous traffic jam leaving that led to the crew arriving home at 1:30 a.m., the kids were total troopers and they loved the show and their special time with Paul. As I lifted a sleeping Norah out of the car when they got home, she said, "Mama, we had the best night ever with Papa."
