Now a Video of Atticus

Atticus, I promise this is the only time I'll write about this subject on the blog. However, I think the general public (e.g. grandmas and grandpas everywhere) will be impressed to hear that you used a big boy toilet twice. Our potty prodigy was rewarded with Cars Band-Aids on his hands and is quite pleased with himself.

Hanging Around

Digging in the backyard is a very popular activity right now. When we ask if they'd like to go out, Atticus usually starts running around yelling, "Out! Out! Shoes Rah-Rah! Shoes!"
(I have no idea why this last photo is posting sideways. If you have a laptop, I'd recommend turning it on its side.)

Do You Want to Hear about My Kids Or My Students?

I only have four days left to teach before summer vacation begins. Some friends have complained that I never write about my job. Apparently, the my-kids-are-so-cute blog format isn't working for everyone. I've grappled with that a lot because it's been quite a school year. I haven't had the energy to sort through what I should and should not write about, but I'll post a reflection on the school year soon. I promise.

Until then, I'll just reiterate that I have the cutest, sweetest toddlers ever. I've actually enjoyed having a balance between family and work this year, but I can't wait to hang out with my kiddos all summer. Wahoo!

Norah soothed herself to sleep tonight with the following mantra: "One, two, fwee, four, five, dix, nine, ten, E-I-E-I-O! One, two, fwee..." Yesterday at the park with my grandma, Norah would go down a slide and then run over to the bench to give GiGi a hug and perform a little happy dance.

Atticus has been working on his interjections this week. Uh Oh! Whoops! Oh Dear! Oops! and Oh No! are all particular favorites. They usually directly precede "accidents" that are about to happen such as a bucket of sand being upturned on his head.

Grammy's Video

My mom took this footage of Norah somersaulting and jumping last weekend at the Ethiopian adoption picnic we attended. Thanks Mom!

This Old House

It's been a loud week around here for us. Back when we were house-hunting, Paul didn't have any strong opinions about what he wanted in a house except he knew he did not want cedar shakes. As someone who worked as a house painter during high school and college, he wanted to avoid them at all costs. Then, of course, we found our house which had original 1914 cedar shakes and they weren't in good shape. This year, we knew we had to decide between paying to paint the house and replace the gutters and soffits or paying to replace said items with vinyl. Goodbye mud-colored, peeling, warped cedar shakes. Hello maintenance-free siding.

Please Press Pause

The weather was gorgeous this weekend. I'm having a hard time remembering that it's now May, so this type of weather is to be expected. Is time really passing this quickly? Didn't we just become parents a few weeks ago? When did my babies turn into a little boy and girl?

Norah had to wait her turn this morning to use the kids' swing. At first, she waited patiently while giving me some suggestions for chores I might want to consider later in the day:
Finally, the anticipation was too much for her and she tried to "help" Atticus out of the swing.
